The Artist Magazine
I was recently interviewed by the Artist magazine as part of the ROI Artist Magazine prize, which I was awarded in 2025. The Royal Institute of Oil Painters (ROI) holds an annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries. I was pleased to exhibit my painting Suspension alongside many other notable and skilled works by artists from across the UK and further afield. The Artist Magazine has sponsored an award for several years and has been published since the early 1930s. It is now published in a combined format with the Leisure Painter (two magazines in one publication, other formats also available). I have several copies in my studio from over the years including a very battered edition from 1932!

Dartmoor New Horizons
I’m pleased to share that I’ll be exhibiting a brand-new painting called ‘Less is Moor’ at the Dartmoor New Horizons exhibition. It’s set in the beautiful moors at Neadon Barn, just near Manaton. The exhibition features artworks from talented members of the South West Academy, each artist capturing their unique perspective on Dartmoor. There’s also a new book accompanying the show, titled ‘Dartmoor New Horizons: The Legacy of Art in a Changing Landscape,’ written by Simon Butler and Brian Le Messurier. It’s a fascinating read that delves into the rich visual history of the moors and how artists have responded to this varied landscape over the centuries.

New Portrait Unveiled
The Right Reverend Robert Atwell, Bishop of Exeter portrait was officially unveiled on 21 July 2021.
The oil painting, which was funded by a private donation, follows in a long tradition of portraits of the bishops of Exeter going back to medieval times.
It intentionally mirrors a mid Eighteenth-Century painting of Bishop Lavington and will eventually hang alongside it either side of a fireplace in the Bishop’s Palace.
The portrait will go on public display in Exeter Cathedral’s St Gabriel Chapel from Thursday 22 July to Sunday 23 August 2021.
